I am still working on making my first crocheted handbag. It is almost completed, the only thing missing is the lining. I’ve spent countless hours looking up how to hand sew a lining in.. with no luck. Everything I’ve seen calls for a machine sewn lining, to begin with at least. Now, I have a sewing machine, I’ve had one for at least 10 years. It’s a nice Singer model with tons of little gadgets and stitch patterns. But every time I look at it, it intimidates me to no end. I’ve attempted to sew. Attempted. When I first received it, as a gift from my mother, I attempted to make a dress for my daughter who was at the time a little over 3 years old. The dress turned out so small it couldn’t even fit her doll. So I packed up the machine and put it away, feeling very defeated. Until today. Before I tackled the lining, I had to figure out how to use the thing! My wife sat with me and helped me figure out how turn it on, thread it and all that good stuff. She also commissioned a starter project – a grocery bag holder. We hoard those plastic grocery bags like nobody’s business!
So I buckled down, watched a bunch of youtube videos, read a bunch of blogs and created this:
I’m really happy with the way it turned out. Doing this little project has given me the confidence to forge ahead with my bag lining. *fingers Crossed*.
